Christmas Gifts of 2009

I made several gifts for Christmas this year. The first was a computer bag. I used an Amy Buttler pattern. After taking the photos I added a strap and latch to the bag. I am quite happy with how it turned out.

I attempted my first T-Shirt quilt for a family friend. It ended up being more work that what I originally thought it would be, but I am thrilled with how it turned out.

She had many odd sized graphics so I put all of those on the back.

A bag for my cousin. I had made this one for myself in the past and she loved it so I made one for her too. I LOVE the fabric! She did too.

Erin and Joe's Wedding Quilt

A good friend of mine got married a few months ago. This is the quilt that I made for her. I think it is my favorite one thus far. I am in love with the colors and the texture it got after being washed.

Craft Fair

Next weekend I am taking part in a craft fair up in Appleton. It is the first one that is being held so I have my fingers crossed that it goes well. This is what I have made to sell. I am also doing quilts to order. I am hoping that I don't run out of things but sell most of my stuff. But, who knows! We will have to see.

Finally the fifth of five!

I just finished the fifth quilt of the five I needed to get done this last month. This one got done a week later than I would have liked, but at least it got done before the baby came! The fabrics are Moda's Sultry by Basic Grey and I love them! I am very pleased with how this one turned out. I hope that the mom is as well!

4th of 5 plus another one

Last week Brenna, the daughter of our good friends, came over for 3 days while her parents were at work. She is 7 and kept asking me to teach her how to sew. I decided to help her make a doll quilt. This is what we ended up with. She did the foot peddle on her own and all I really did was help guide the fabric. She did a fabulous job don't you think!

This is the fourth of the five quilts I have needed to get done in the last month. It was for a baby shower gift for our good friends. They loved it, so do I! The flowers are all appliqued on and I did the quilting on it. It is bright, but the more that I saw it, the more it grew on me. I love the green polka dot sashing!

The month of August has been very busy in my sewing and quilting world. I have had 4 quilts that have needed to be started and finished. Here are pictures of two of them. The other two are not quite finished yet.

This first was a quilt that my aunt gave as a baby shower gift. She picked out the pattern and said that the soon to be grandma wanted only purples. This was quite a challenge for me because I am not a lover of purple. But, my sister-in-law who is said that she really liked it. Now lets hope she wasn't just being nice!

This is the back of the quilt.

This quilt my mom gave as a baby shower gift to a friend of hers. It is a ragged quilt. It is made of flannel fabrics, the seams are sewn out and then clipped which makes the quilt very fuzzy and soft. I love how it turned out.

For Mother's Day I had made my mom a travel cosmetic bag to replace the ziploc bag that she had been using. I finally got around to making the matching make-up bag for her. I am thrilled with how it turned out and I think she is too.

Katie and Renzo's wedding quilt

I made this quilt for my good friend and her new husband as a wedding quilt. I used Heather Mulder Peterson's fabric Rebel Roses and designed it off of one of her quilts as well. I don't know if she has an actual written pattern for hers or not, I just looked at her picture and drew up one similar. I love how it turned out. I hope Katie and Renzo enjoy it as much as I did making it for them!

Computer Bag

Annie just got a beautiful new laptop computer and while she was here this weekend asked if I could make her a case for her computer like the one I made for Dustin. I said sure and we headed for the fabric store. Here is what we came up with. I am thrilled with how it turned out. I actually like it better than I like Dustin's. I guess you learn from your mistakes.

Wall Flower

I just finished this quilt. I am in love with it. The pattern was "Wallflower" by Thimble Blossoms and the fabric was Soiree by Lila Tueller. I am absolutely in love with the fabric. I need to buy more so that I can do something else with it.

The quilt is for my Aunt to give as a baby gift. It is going to her best friend's first granddaughter. I was told that the mom likes pink, polka dots and preppy. I grew up with her so imagine the pressure to make it perfect! :) My aunt loves it, so now we need to wait and see what Mom and Grandma think. Keep your fingers crossed.

All of the flower parts and the monogramed circle were all hand stitched down, and I did the quilting. I think it took close to 20 hours. But to me, that was 20 hours of doing something I love. So, long story short... it was great!

This is a picture of the back of the quilt... it was pieced too. I love the interest it gives it. It is basically a two sided quilt now.

Christmas Presents

It was a hand made holiday this year for Christmas. I made several gifts for our family.

This is a journal cover that I made for my cousin Stephanie.

A knitting needle holder and bag for Joanne. She always carries her projects to and from places in paper bags. I decided that it was about time she was more stylish while knitting.

A purse for Gammy. She chose the colors, I chose the pattern.

A crayon roll for our friend's daughter, Brenna.

And a quilt for my mom.

A new bed for Roxie

We decided that our puppy Roxie needed a new bed. I pieced and quilted the top, and just added a plain back. She loves it which makes me so happy. She no longer is sleeping in the recliner in our room, she has slept on her new bed since I finished it. I am very happy that she likes it so much. I just ended up stuffing it with old bed pillows which I think adds to the "comfiness" of it.

Birthday Bag

I can finally show you the bag that I made for my mom for her birthday. I have a pattern that I based it on. In the end though, I changed a lot of it. I am very happy with how it turned out. The bottom two pictures are the most accurate when it comes to color. I used 6 charms from a Moda line for the stripe in the middle, a solid brown for the bag, and a brown and white polka dot for the inside. I am very happy with how it turned out and my mom really loves it too.

Helicopter Quilt

I have been working on this quilt for a couple of weeks now. I made it for Dustin's boss's new baby. We went and dropped it off today and he loved it. I was so excited how it turned out. I added up my hours spent on it and it was close to 25 hours. Wow, lots of love went into this quilt.

I love how the stripes that I used as the binding borders the quilt. I think it adds just the right amount of "punch" to it.

My Grandmother asked me to make a purse for her sister, Marilyn's, birthday. I have had it finished for quite a while now, but could not post it for fear of her seeing it. Her birthday was this last week so she has finally received it and I can finally post about it. I am really happy with how it turned out. It was quite easy, I will definitely make more in the future.

Lots of new fabric

We have been out of town for a few weeks on a much needed vacation. While gone I got to visit 3 different quilt stores and came home with 3 huge bags of new fabric! How great!

These are new fabrics for a quilt that my husband picked out. He picked out the pattern and fabric. (with a bit of help from me and his mom.) He has been wanting me to make him a quilt, but he wanted to wait until he found the "perfect" pattern. Well he found it! Now I just have to find the time to make it.

The rest of these are just fabrics that I fell in love with and NEEDED to add to my stash. The list of projects continues!

A bunch at once

Since this is a new blog for just me and my crafting (my other is for my Daughter) I have not put on all of my projects quite yet, but am slowly working on it. These are preliminary pictures of a lot of my stuff. I have all of the quilts shown now finished but have not taken "finished" pictures of them yet. I will plan to enlist my husband to help me with that soon. But for the time being, these will have to do.

This is the first quilt that I completed. It is on it's way to be donated to the NICU in our local hospital. When my daughter was born she was in the NICU for 5 days and received a quilt while she was there. That was such a glimmer of happiness during the hard days that we encountered. I wanted to give that to other moms so I asked my mother in law for help. Being a quilter for last 30 plus years I knew she was the one to turn to. This is the reason I decided to start quilting.

Another quilt for the hospital. Try to ignore the spot in the middle. It was wet from me trying to get a chocolate hand print, graciously put on by my daughter, off of it.

This was the first bag that I made. I am happy with how it turned out, and now we use it as a swimming bag for swimming lessons each week.

This quilt was made for my daughter for her 1st birthday. It screams "little Girl" and that is exactly what I was hoping for!

From Old to New

A few weeks ago our neighbors who have 2 girls, 12 and 9, and a little boy, 4, brought down this rocking chair for RIley. Their older girls are too big for it, and their little boy refuses to use it because it is too "girly." Well, lucky Riley. I decided that it was a little outdated and dirty so I recovered it and Dustin repainted it. I am so excited with how it turned out and Riley loves it!

Annie's Bag

This was the bag from... you know where. I first of all started it for my mom, but by the time that I was half way through I decided that it was way to big for her and she would never use it for anything. I then decided that it was perfect for my sister and her weekend trips to see us. The entire time I was making it I was frustrated and couldn't wait to get it done. But the minute I finished it I fell in love with it. I have wanted to make myself one since I gave it away but have not been able to bring myself to it yet. It is quite large, and very sturdy. It would make a great swimming bag for Riley and I. Hmmm... maybe by the end of the summer I will attempt it again.

Little Duck Quilt

I made this quilt for one of Dustin's co-workers. He was on his 4th baby and I thought that he needed something special. It was my first attempt at applique and it turned out really well. I was very pleased with it. I think it is the quilt that I am the most proud of to date.

Needle Book

This is a quick little needle book that I through together without a pattern. I was sick of my needles falling all over the place, so I put this together. I just stitched two pieces of fabric together with a layer of batting in between, put on a binding and blanket stitched the two together.
